Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional developments, particularly ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the conversation focused on deepening the “fraternal bonds” between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, energy and people-to-people exchanges.

PM Shehbaz conveyed his best wishes for the successful convening of the World Urban Forum in Baku next week and expressed confidence that, under President Aliyev’s leadership, the forum would contribute meaningfully to the global urban development agenda.

The prime minister also assured the Azerbaijani president that Pakistan would be well represented at the forum.

The two leaders also discussed regional developments, with a particular focus on ongoing diplomatic and peace efforts in the Middle East.

Sharif appreciated President Aliyev’s remarks regarding Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace, dialogue and diplomacy in the region.
