In the midst of the ongoing Israeli bombardment in Gaza, a barrage of rockets targeted the US embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
A US official informed the international media that a multi-rocket attack occurred near Union III and the Baghdad embassy complex, with no reported casualties or damage. This rocket assault coincided with the conflict between US ally Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza, resulting in numerous casualties, including children, since the October 7 attack by the fighter group.
The US embassy, situated in the Green Zone, released a statement confirming the firing of “two salvoes of rockets” around 4:15 am (1:15 am GMT). A US spokesperson suggested that Iran-aligned militias likely initiated the attacks and called on the Iraqi government to protect diplomatic and coalition partner personnel and facilities.
The spokesperson reiterated the US’s right to self-defense and protection of its personnel worldwide. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
