More Than 50 Million Deprived of Healthcare Due to Poverty and Infrastructure Gaps
ISLAMABAD: Over 50 million Pakistanis are denied essential healthcare, with poverty and lack of infrastructure being the primary barriers. This violation of their fundamental right to health was highlighted by Haroon Naseer, CEO of Maroof International Hospital.
Healthcare as a Fundamental Human Right
Haroon Naseer, speaking at an event marking International Human Rights Day, emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental human right, essential for dignity and equality.
Systemic Barriers: Poverty and Inequality
Reflecting on International Human Rights Day, Naseer pointed out that millions continue to face systemic barriers like poverty and inequality, which deprive them of basic healthcare services.
The Shortage of Nurses and Health Insurance
Mr. Naseer, a recipient of the Human Rights Award from the Human Rights Council of Pakistan, addressed the shortage of nurses in the country and the fact that over 80% of Pakistanis lack health insurance, which denies them access to affordable care.
Commitment to Bridging the Healthcare Gap
“We are committed to ensuring healthcare is a right for all,” Naseer said, stressing the importance of bridging the critical gaps in the healthcare system. Despite the progress made, millions of Pakistanis still face significant barriers to healthcare access.
