The new gas reserves were discovered in the Uch Sharif area of Dera Bugti
Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially commenced gas production from newly discovered reserves in the Uch Sharif area of Dera Bugti, Balochistan. This significant milestone has been achieved with the support of the State Investment and Finance Corporation (SIFC), a key player in driving Pakistan’s energy sector development.
Collaborative Efforts Boost Pakistan’s Energy Sector
According to reports, the partnership between OGDCL and SIFC has marked a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s energy industry. SIFC has actively focused on enhancing the country’s energy stability and fostering growth in this critical sector.
The discovery was made after OGDCL drilled a well to a depth of 1,345 meters. The newly tapped reserves boast a production capacity of approximately 5 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, making it a valuable addition to Pakistan’s energy resources.
Supporting Economic Growth and Energy Security
The gas produced from the Uch Sharif reserves will be processed at OGDCL’s Uch Gas Processing Plant and supplied to Uch Power Limited. This initiative is expected to generate significant economic benefits, with anticipated profits for OGDCL reaching an impressive Rs41.02 billion.
OGDCL reaffirmed its commitment to increasing energy production to ensure Pakistan’s energy security and support sustainable development. By tapping into these reserves, the company is playing a vital role in addressing the country’s growing energy needs.
Previous Discoveries Highlight OGDCL’s Contributions
This isn’t OGDCL’s first success in uncovering natural gas reserves. The company had previously discovered substantial reserves in Khairpur, Sindh, further strengthening its role as a leading contributor to Pakistan’s energy supply chain.
A Step Towards Sustainable Energy
As Pakistan continues to face energy challenges, discoveries like the one in Dera Bugti represent a step forward in achieving energy independence. With OGDCL and SIFC leading the way, Pakistan’s energy sector is poised for growth, offering hope for a more secure and sustainable future.
