{"id":997,"date":"2026-05-13T14:50:05","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=997"},"modified":"2026-05-13T14:50:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:50:05","slug":"govt-weighs-ai-based-tax-enforcement-digital-monitoring-reforms-for-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=997","title":{"rendered":"Govt weighs AI-based tax enforcement, digital monitoring reforms for budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The government is considering the introduction of digital monitoring systems and artificial intelligence (AI)-based tax enforcement reforms in the upcoming Finance Bill to curb tax evasion, broaden the tax base and improve revenue collection, according to a press release.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposals were reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema on Wednesday, according to an official statement.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Rashid Mahmood Langrial and Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, along with senior officials.<\/p>\n<p>During the briefing, officials of the Federal Board of Revenue presented a series of proposed tax enforcement measures aimed at addressing underreporting, non-reporting, under-invoicing, tax evasion and smuggling.<\/p>\n<p>Among the key proposals discussed were digital monitoring mechanisms and AI-based systems designed to detect false data in tax returns and strengthen oversight against underreporting and tax evasion. Participants also reviewed a proposal to introduce an e-auction system for confiscated goods by customs authorities to improve transparency and efficiency in the disposal process.<\/p>\n<p>Cheema said the government wanted to pursue tax enforcement reforms while ensuring economic growth and avoiding hurdles for businesses.
