
{"id":595,"date":"2026-05-11T11:50:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T11:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=595"},"modified":"2026-05-11T11:50:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T11:50:17","slug":"afghanistan-issued-demarche-after-15-police-personnel-martyred-in-bannu-suicide-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=595","title":{"rendered":"Afghanistan issued demarche after 15 police personnel martyred in Bannu suicide attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Foreign Office (FO) said on Monday that the Afghan charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires was summoned and handed a \u201cstrong demarche\u201d over the suicide attack in Bannu, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1999290\">claimed <\/a>the lives of 15 police personnel.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the FO said, \u201cThe Afghan charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to deliver a strong demarche regarding the cowardly vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) attack carried out by terrorists of <em>Fitna al Khawarij<\/em> on the Fateh Khel police post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa\u2019s Bannu District on May 9.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1849349\/govt-proscribes-gul-bahadur-group-majeed-brigade#:~:text=TTP%20labelled%20as%20fitna\"><em><u>Fitna al Khawarij<\/u><\/em><\/a> is a term the state uses for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, while <em>Fitna al Hindustan<\/em> is a term designated by the state for terrorist organisations in Balo\u00adchistan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--    media--uneven  media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ForeignOfficePk\/status\/2053788948531683490\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ForeignOfficePk\/status\/2053788948531683490\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe ministry conveyed that a detailed investigation into the incident, along with evidence collected and technical intelligence, indicates that the attack was masterminded by terrorists residing in Afghanistan,\u201d the FO said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReiterating Pakistan\u2019s grave concern over the continued use of Afghan soil for terrorist attacks against Pakistan, it was impressed upon the Afghan side that Pakistan reserves the right to respond decisively against the perpetrators of this barbaric act,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>It was also highlighted that the continued presence of various terrorist organisations on Afghan soil, and the permissive environment enabling their operations, were documented in reports by the United Nations Monitoring Team and other international organisations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fight against terrorism is a common cause, and the Afghan Taliban must honour their commitment not to allow their territory to be used for terrorism against other countries,\u201d the FO said.<\/p>\n<p>It stated that Pakistan had repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban regime to take concrete and verifiable action against <em>Fitna al Khawarij<\/em>, <em>Fitna al Hindustan<\/em>, and ISKP\/Daesh elements operating from Afghan soil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPakistan has also constructively engaged with the Afghan Taliban regime through several rounds of talks mediated by brotherly and friendly countries. However, the Afghan Taliban have consistently failed to commit to, or deliver, meaningful and verifiable action against these terrorist outfits,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Afghan Taliban regime has also been categorically informed that, if it continues to harbour these terrorist organisations, Pakistan will not compromise on its national security or on the safety and protection of its citizens,\u201d the FO concluded.<\/p>\n<p>At least 15 police officers were martyred and three others wounded late on Saturday night after terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into Fateh Khel police post in Bannu, followed by attacks from multiple directions with heavy weaponry and drones.<\/p>\n<p>Bannu Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan confirmed that a total of 18 police personnel were on duty at the post when it was attacked. The initial assault began when terrorists drove a vehicle filled with explosives into the post.<\/p>\n<p>Following the massive blast, militants opened heavy fire and launched a multi-pronged ground attack, according to authorities. \u201cFifteen were martyred and three sustained injuries,\u201d the RPO said.<\/p>\n<p>A senior administration official in Bannu told <em>AFP<\/em> the assailants also used quadcopters during the assault.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1999430\/afghanistan-issued-demarche-after-15-police-personnel-martyred-in-bannu-suicide-attack#recent-pak-afghan-ties\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Recent Pak-Afghan ties<\/h2>\n<p>There has been a resurgence in terrorism in Pakistan since the Afghan Taliban <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1852243\"><u>returned<\/u><\/a> to power in Kabul in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban administration to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil, particularly those linked to the banned TTP. Officials say those appeals have gone unheeded.<\/p>\n<p>Operation Ghazab lil-Haq was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1976050\/forces-repel-miscalculated-attacks-by-afghan-taliban\"><u>launched <\/u><\/a>on the night of February 26, following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1975483\"><u>unprovoked firing<\/u><\/a> by the Afghan Taliban from across the border.<\/p>\n<p>From March 18 to 23, Pakistan observed a five-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1983569\"><u>temporary pause<\/u><\/a> in the operation on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, with the FO later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1985608\/temporary-pause-in-operation-ghazab-lil-haq-has-concluded-fo-says\"><u>saying<\/u><\/a> it would continue \u201cuntil its objectives are achieved\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>De-escalation requests from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1958546\"><u>Saudi Arabia<\/u><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1976349\"><u>Qatar<\/u><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1983758\/in-call-with-erdogan-pm-acknowledges-turkiyes-role-in-promoting-peace-between-pakistan-afghanistan\"><u>Turkiye<\/u><\/a> were part of the reasons behind the pauses announced by both sides, according to their respective statements.<\/p>\n<p>In early March, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1978336\"><u>said<\/u><\/a> that peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan could only prevail if the Taliban regime \u201crenounced their support for terrorism and terrorist organisations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the two countries held <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1989918\/afghanistan-pakistan-agree-to-avoid-escalation-during-china-hosted-talks-beijing\">talks <\/a>in China\u2019s Urumqi and agreed to avoid any escalation in their armed conflict.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Foreign Office (FO) said on Monday that the Afghan charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires was summoned and handed a \u201cstrong demarche\u201d over the suicide attack in Bannu, which claimed the lives of 15 police personnel.
