
{"id":531,"date":"2026-05-11T06:50:25","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T06:50:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=531"},"modified":"2026-05-11T06:50:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T06:50:25","slug":"trump-rejects-unacceptable-iran-response-to-peace-plan-oil-prices-jump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"Trump rejects &#8216;unacceptable&#8217; Iran response to peace plan, oil prices jump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DUBAI\/WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump\u2019s swift rejection of Iran\u2019s response to a U.S. peace proposal sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40420563\/oil-rises-4-after-trump-rejects-irans-response-to-us-peace-proposal\">oil prices<\/a> surging on Monday amid concerns the 10-week-old conflict will drag on, keeping shipping through the Strait of Hormuz paralyzed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Days after the U.S. floated an offer in the hopes of re-opening negotiations, Iran on Sunday released a response focused on ending the war on all fronts, especially Lebanon, where U.S. ally Israel is fighting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40419916\">Hezbollah<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran also included a demand for compensation for war damage and emphasised Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state TV said.<\/p>\n<p>It also called on the U.S. to end its naval blockade, guarantee no further attacks, lift sanctions and end a U.S. ban on Iranian oil sales, the semi-official <em>Tasnim<\/em> news agency said.<\/p>\n<p>Within hours, Trump dismissed Iran\u2019s proposal with a post on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t like it \u2014 TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social, without giving further detail.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. had proposed an end to fighting before starting talks on more contentious issues, including Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40420563\/oil-rises-4-after-trump-rejects-irans-response-to-us-peace-proposal\">Oil prices jumped more than $4 a barrel<\/a> on Monday following news of the continued stalemate that leaves the narrow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40420454\/south-korea-says-unidentified-aircraft-hit-cargo-vessel-in-hormuz\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a> largely closed. Before the war began on February 28, the waterway carried one-fifth of the world\u2019s oil and liquefied natural gas flows, and has emerged as one of the central pressure points in the war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe oil market continues to trade like a geopolitical headline machine, with prices swinging sharply based on every comment, rejection, or warning coming from Washington and Tehran,\u201d said Priyanka Sachdeva, senior market analyst at Phillip Nova.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three tankers transit the strait in recent days<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is at a trickle compared to before the war, shipping data on Kpler and LSEG showed three tankers laden with crude exited the waterway last week, with trackers switched off to avoid Iranian attack.<\/p>\n<p>Surveys show the war is unpopular with U.S. voters facing sharply higher gasoline prices less than six months before nationwide elections that will determine whether Trump\u2019s Republican party retains control of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has also found little international support, with NATO allies refusing calls to send ships to open the Strait of Hormuz without a full peace deal and an internationally mandated mission.<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear what fresh diplomatic or military steps may be ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is expected to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday. With mounting pressure to draw a line under the war and the global energy crisis it has ignited, Iran is among the topics Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to discuss.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has been leaning on China to use its influence to push Tehran to make a deal with Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing whether combat operations against Iran were over, Trump said in remarks aired on Sunday: \u201cThey are defeated, but that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40420468\"> Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> said the war was not over because there was \u201cmore work to be done\u201d to remove enriched uranium from Iran, dismantle enrichment sites and address Iran\u2019s proxies and ballistic missile capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to remove the enriched uranium would be through diplomacy, Netanyahu said in an interview that aired Sunday on CBS News\u2019 \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d But he did not rule out removing it by force.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40413572\">Masoud Pezeshkian<\/a> said in a social media post that Iran would \u201cnever bow down to the enemy\u201d and would \u201cdefend national interests with strength.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite diplomatic efforts to break a deadlock, the threat to shipping lanes and the economies of the region remained high. Recent days have seen the biggest flare-ups in fighting in and around the strait since a ceasefire began in early April.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40420259\">United Arab Emirates<\/a> said it intercepted two drones coming from Iran, while Qatar condemned a drone attack that hit a cargo ship coming from Abu Dhabi in its waters.
