Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said he and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani reaffirmed their \u201cshared commitment\u201d to support \u201cconstructive dialogue\u201d in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, PM Shehbaz said he was \u201cdelighted to receive a telephone call from my brother [\u2026] earlier today\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and reaffirmed our shared commitment to support all ongoing efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace, stability, and constructive dialogue across the region,\u201d the premier added.<\/p>\n
The prime minister said he conveyed his \u201csincere appreciation to my dear brother\u201d, Qatar\u2019s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, \u201cfor his wise leadership and for Qatar\u2019s continued support for Pakistan\u2019s sincere efforts to advance regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy\u201d.<\/p>\n
PM Shehbaz further said he looked forward to the Qatari emir\u2019s visit to \u201cPakistan very soon\u201d.<\/p>\n \n <\/a>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n In its statement on the phone call, the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (PMO) said the two leaders \u201creviewed the progress of ongoing peace efforts in the region\u201d.<\/p>\n Emphasising the \u201cdepth of the brotherly bonds between the two countries\u201d, the PMO said both sides \u201cunderscored the importance of constructive engagement by all parties to ensure the success of ongoing peace efforts\u201d.<\/p>\n It further noted that the Qatari emir\u2019s visit \u201cwould help both sides to further strengthen and expand the enduring Pakistan-Qatar partnership\u201d.<\/p>\n \n <\/a>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n According to Qatar\u2019s foreign ministry, Sheikh Mohammed affirmed Qatar\u2019s \u201cfull support for the Pakistani mediation efforts aimed at ending the crisis through peaceful means\u201d.<\/p>\n He stressed the \u201cneed for all parties to respond to these efforts in order to create the appropriate conditions for progress in the negotiations, leading to a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region\u201d.<\/p>\n \n <\/a>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n The conversation marks the second phone<\/a> call this week between PM Shehbaz and Sheikh Mohammed. It also follows the Qatari PM\u2019s meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy on the Middle East Steve Witkoff during his visit to the United States.<\/p>\n Rubio said he discussed \u201cUS support for Qatar\u2019s defence\u201d, while Qatar\u2019s foreign ministry noted that \u201cPakistani mediation aimed at reducing escalation\u201d also came under discussion.<\/p>\n \n <\/a>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Iran, while questioning the seriousness of American diplomacy, has kept the United States waiting<\/u><\/a> for its response to Washington\u2019s latest proposals to end more than two months of fighting and begin peace talks.<\/p>\n Pakistan initially positioned itself as a facilitator in the peace process between Tehran and Washington after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, setting off a conflict that gave rise to a global fuel crisis.
