{"id":1177,"date":"2026-05-14T15:50:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T15:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=1177"},"modified":"2026-05-14T15:50:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T15:50:15","slug":"pakistan-issues-first-panda-bond-in-chinas-onshore-capital-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailypakistannews.com\/?p=1177","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan issues first Panda Bond in China\u2019s onshore capital market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Pakistan issued on Thursday its first Panda Bond in China\u2019s onshore capital market, Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad announced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe inaugural Panda Bond is a 3-year fixed-rate instrument, making it Pakistan\u2019s first-ever RMB-denominated sovereign issuance in China\u2019s onshore capital market,\u201d Schehzad wrote in a post on X.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--    media--uneven  media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kschehzad\/status\/2054924925790822507\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kschehzad\/status\/2054924925790822507\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe landmark Panda Bond issuance of RMB 1.75 billion (equivalent to US$250 million) attracted overwhelming investor demand of over RMB 8.8 billion (approximately US$1.26 billion), resulting in an oversubscription of more than 5 times,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Panda Bonds are yuan-denominated bonds issued by foreign governments or institutions in China.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Schehzad said demand for the inaugural tranche alone exceeded Pakistan\u2019s entire planned Panda Bond programme size of RMB 7.2 billion (US$1 billion equivalent). He termed the development \u201ca powerful reflection of growing international investor confidence in Pakistan\u2019s economic outlook and reform trajectory\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strong order book enabled highly competitive pricing (2.5% coupon), demonstrating the market\u2019s positive assessment of Pakistan\u2019s improving macroeconomic fundamentals, external stability, disciplined fiscal management, and sovereign repayment capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the advisor, the issuance was more than a financing transaction as it marked Pakistan\u2019s entry into China\u2019s capital market and strengthened of Pakistan-China financial cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe success of the Panda Bond sends a powerful signal to global investors that Pakistan\u2019s economic recovery is gaining international recognition.
