TEHRAN: Iran\u2019s foreign minister said Wednesday that Tehran had the right to respond after he accused Kuwait of attacking an Iranian boat and arresting four of its citizens in the Gulf, calling for their release.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn clear attempt to sow discord, Kuwait has unlawfully attacked an Iranian boat and detained 4 of our citizens in the Persian Gulf. This illegal act took place near island used by the US to attack Iran,\u201d Abbas Araghchi wrote on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe demand immediate release of our nationals and reserve right to respond,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Kuwait\u2019s interior ministry said in a statement published by state news agency KUNA on Tuesday that four people arrested earlier this month as they attempted to enter the country by sea confessed to belonging to Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards.<\/p>\n

The four men \u2013 two navy colonels, a captain and a lieutenant commander \u2013 admitted they had been tasked by Iran\u2019s ideological army with \u201cinfiltrating\u201d Bubiyan Island, the Kuwaiti ministry said.<\/p>\n

But Iran\u2019s foreign ministry called the allegations \u201cabsolutely baseless\u201d, and said the four officers had entered Kuwaiti waters by mistake \u201cdue to disruption in the navigation system\u201d.<\/p>\n
