Special Court Frames Charges Against Former Prime Minister and Wife
The special court, led by Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, has framed charges against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case. The FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) accuses the couple of unlawfully receiving a Bulgari jewellery set from Saudi Arabia and failing to deposit it in the state’s Toshakhana.
Allegations and the Valuation Discrepancy
According to FIA records, the Bulgari jewellery set is valued at Rs71.5 million. However, the accused had it appraised at only Rs5.8 million by a private firm, leading to accusations of a significant undervaluation to evade the legal requirement of submitting the gifts in Toshakhana.
Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have denied the charges brought against them.
Legal Developments: Bail and Incarceration
In October 2023, the court granted Bushra Bibi bail, and she was subsequently released. Imran Khan was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court on November 20 in the same case, though he remains incarcerated in connection with other ongoing legal matters.
Indictment in the GHQ Attack Case
Just last week, Imran Khan and other senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party were indicted in a case related to the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on May 9, 2023. In addition to Imran Khan, charges were framed against prominent PTI leaders including Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Sheikh Asad Shafiq, Raja Basharat, Zartaj Gul, and over 100 other accused individuals.
